1. Choose Your Light Color
Permanent outdoor lights work differently depending on their LED channels. RGB focuses on color; RGBW adds a white channel; RGBCW includes warm and cool white channels for adjustable white appearance. Brightness and beam shape still differ from model to model.

2. Pick the Correct Length and Kit
Measure the illuminated roofline, then list unlit jumps separately. A kit advertised as 400ft does not mean 400ft is permitted on one uninterrupted circuit. Follow the branching, power and signal rules for the chosen model.

Smaller layouts: C5113 100–150ft RGBW or C5106 Pro 100–200ft. Longer supported projects: C5111 RGBW 200–400ft or PL2 RGBCW 100–400ft.
3. Plan a Clean, Reliable Installation
Choose safe mounting positions, account for gutters and cable gaps, plan accessible connections and use the mounting profile compatible with your light series. Outdoor protection is component-specific—follow the instructions for each power supply, controller, cable and light.

DIY vs professional installation: when to use an installer.
Need separate track? PL2 / C5111 compatible 50ft track and C5106 Pro 50ft track are different product families. Select your light model first; confirm track compatibility before adding separately to cart.
4. Compare Brands and Year-Round Value
The best lights should make sense in July as well as December. Consider everyday warm white, special-occasion effects, how much manual installation is required and what the manufacturer supports over time.
- Christmas and year-round use: plan color scenes and everyday white lighting.
- APPECK vs Govee: compare named models rather than assuming every product from a brand shares features.
Ready to Select a System?
Compare available lengths, black or white options, light-only packages and existing + Track Kit variants. Buying a separate track or replacement part? Match its compatibility to your selected light series; do not assume all fittings are interchangeable.
